What are the Health Benefits of Drinking Carrot Juice?

By Sheri Cyprus
Updated: Mar 03, 2024

Many people consider drinking carrot juice one of the healthiest lifestyle choices possible. Carrot juice is known for beta carotene which gives the body Vitamin A, B Vitamins, Vitamin E and many minerals. The health benefits of drinking carrot juice are thought to be good prenatal health, eyesight, bones and teeth, liver and nails, skin and hair as well as helping in cancer prevention.

Carrot juice is thought to reduce the risks of many different types of cancer including skin and breast cancer. The cancer-fighting properties of carrot juice are often thought to be excellent due to the high amounts of beta carotene. Beta carotene changes to Vitamin A in the body. Studies have connected Vitamin A with cancer prevention by its antioxidant properties that help eliminate cancer-causing free radicals in the body.

Deficiencies in Vitamin A can cause dryness and damage to the skin, nails and hair. Drinking carrot juice to produce Vitamin A is said to benefit many different parts of the body. Vitamin A also strengthens bones and teeth.

Drinking carrot juice is thought to be extremely beneficial for the liver due to Vitamin A's cleansing effects. Vitamin A reduces bile and fat in the liver. However, for the liver to reap the maximum benefits of Vitamin A, it is said that drinking carrot juice needs be done regularly rather than occasionally. The liver can store Vitamin A.

Drinking carrot juice is also thought to improve eyesight due to Vitamin A creation in the body. Deficiencies in Vitamin A can lead to night blindness which can be very dangerous. For example, if a person with night blindness is driving a car at night, the glare of the headlights from oncoming cars in the opposite direction can affect him or her in a way that makes the eyes not refocus properly. An easy way of detecting a Vitamin A deficiency is to walk from a well-lit room to a dimly-lit or dark room. Your eyes should have little trouble adjusting to the change in light.

Drinking carrot juice, as well as eating carrots, is thought to be especially beneficial for prenatal health. Beta-carotene that forms into Vitamin A is said to be very healthy for both mother and child. Some studies have shown that when babies drink both milk and carrot juice they get the best possible amount of Vitamin A.

The darker the color of the carrot, the more carotene it contains. Many people find the taste of carrot juice enjoyable and surprisingly sweet. Carrot juice does have a high concentration of natural sugar, so those with diabetes should consult their doctor as to how much they can drink. Drinking carrot juice is also thought to be good for reproductive health due to the Vitamin E content.

Why put lemon juice into the carrot juice? It doesn't make any sense, and if you read Colonel Joe Hart's book, he advises against using lemon juice as it is a blocker for oxalic acid, which is the very thing that fights and reduces cancer cells and tumors.

I started drinking carrot juice about a year and a half ago. It was mainly because of the health reasons and I like the taste. What I didn't realize was how much it helped my vision. I used to wear glasses for working on the computer and driving a night. What I found was that I only used my glasses maybe 4 or 5 times in the past year. I am sure results will vary but is has been very helpful for me.

Will Bragg's organic apple cider reduce the effectiveness of the carrot juice? I love them both and thought it would be a good idea to combine them.

I live in the UK and the doctors here "love" us getting cancer as they are in the back pockets of the drug companies. In fact, they "brainwash" patients that fruit and vegetables are "OK," but you still need your medications, Mrs. Smith! So they, the docs, still get their nice little earners from glaxo-smith klein).

I bought a juicer and have symptoms of testicular cancer. I can feel it spreading through my body. However, since taking three cups of carrot juice mixed with half a lemon (without the skin).

the lump on my testicles has been reducing, the lump in my chest is reducing. I have more energy and my blood pressure was 170, and now down it's down to 132.

Brilliant, brilliant stuff. Never, ever trust a doctor or specialist. Trust your body and juice, so we can all live like Jack LaLane.

Someone posted that celery was bad for you because it was high in sodium. As someone who has juiced forever. starting with using the juiceman in the 80s, that sodium in celery is natural and good for you and even calms your nerves. It is not the same as salt.

The question was asked if commercial juice in bottles or plastic containers was the same as juiced carrots from a juicer. I just read that juices that are not made fresh, and sold in stores that are bottled or canned will never oxidize. This is because the juice has been heated to kill all the enzymes.

By amypollick — On Jan 05, 2012

@anon238755: One cup (236 grams) of carrot juice has 20 net grams of carbohydrates. If you're diabetic and you want to drink a glass of carrot juice once in a while, that's probably all right, *but* you need to check your blood glucose levels about two hours after drinking it, to see if it really elevates it. If so, you probably need to avoid it. However, if it doesn't spike your glucose, you're O.K. to drink a glass now and then. *But* always measure how much you're drinking so you can control your carbohydrate intake.

By anon238269 — On Jan 02, 2012

From experience, never juice and drink more than you would eat. For instance, two large carrots is a good serving so only juice two large carrots and you can even add some of the pulp to the juice for a little fiber and maybe a spoonful of protein powder to help keep you full. Do the same with apples or whatever you wish to juice.

My favorite juice smoothie is two large carrots, one medium red apple, one large cucumber, two sticks of celery and a scoop of the biggest loser protein powder vanilla bean flavor. This keeps me full most of the day!

The Carrot Museum has the best info and research on carrots. People have posted that more than one glass, or two glasses or whatever a day is dangerous, but where do they get these facts? They don't really know. Seek out a good source of information, not just random people from a post.

I have more energy and feel better than I have in a very long time, this is the only thing that has changed, I have not added vitamins, exercise or anything else. For the first time in years I maybe able to start exercising and that is exciting. It has been physically impossible up to now!

Carrot juice is the miracle cure for just about any health problem you have. If anyone has anything bad to say about it, it's a lie and they don't want you to know it true benefits.

Men that would fail vision tests for the military would drink carrot juice for two weeks, take their test again and pass.

If you don't feel well, you drink eight glasses a day. The only time that you should be careful drinking that much is if you have congestive heart failure or diabetes, or any kind of condition that makes you retain fluid. For health purposes, six glasses is a good amount to drink daily.

As far as your skin turning orange, I will not turn orange drinking eight glasses a day. I've drunk eight glasses a day for a month and my skin never turned orange. Anything over eight glasses is not recommended and supposedly not safe.

Recipe: 3 medium organic Carrots; 1 small green apple (ex. granny smith, pippin). That recipe is for an 8 ounce glass. (If your carrots are not organic, peel them. Same goes for the apple.)

Also, when you juice the carrots/apple you should drink it immediately to get all the enzymes out of it. As it sits it lo ses enzymes. But if you can't drink it right

away, (like want to bring it to work or out with you for later), you can store it in small 8 oz jars (sealed well) for two days in the refrigerator. You won't get all the enzymes like when you first juiced it but you will still get a lot.

You can make juice with any vegetable and fruit mixed except for celery, because is sodium content is too high when juiced, and spinach, because it contains too much oxalic acid when juiced.

Carrot juice will not hurt you. But only drink eight glasses a day (8 oz). And you only need one glass of orange juice a day, you'll get a lot of vitamins as well.

Carrot juice is great for ulcers. I have acid reflux and have used it to ease the burning pain.

The best juicer will get the most juice from the carrots. I use the breville, but the Jack Lalanne and Magic Bullet Express are also good. Those are the best, but really any juicer will do.

Carrot juice does not make you gain weight. Actually, I lost weight when i first staring drinking it.

You could be in your 20's, 50's, or 80's and up to eight glasses a day is fine.

This is a really good and very accurate web page for the benefits of carrot juice. I've had just about all those results from drinking it myself.

There is much more to the topic of getting well and even being truly healthy, than just drinking carrot juice alone. But it is a great start!

And i noticed someone asking about what kind of water is best to use. Distilled is supposedly the best. But purified is good too. This is the shower filter i use, but I've always used their water systems for the sink too. Aquasana makes them.

Where would i find braggs finger from? Will carrot juice help with inflamed muscles?

By anon102327 — On Aug 07, 2010

I started drinking a lot of carrot juice daily for a week now. This includes, carrots, beets, celery, parsley, two small green apples and ginger. Also at night my eye vision when reading a white sheet of paper it starts to see orange blotches. why is this only at night with some light on?

The second question is, can too much beets cause some adrenal dysfunction or discomfort because of the strength in it? I also am feeling it right as I speak because I know I have two cysts on my right adrenal gland, this I know is because of the beets. Do I have to be careful as how much my intake is, in drinking too much of this every day?

Please tell me what my concerns are because I now have stopped using the beets with my carrot juice in the morning on an empty stomach. Sincerely yours, Gloria G.
